Stefan Feld City Collection 2 Amsterdam Essential Edition Step into the role of influential merchants in 19th-century Amsterdam and navigate the bustling trade networks of the city. Amsterdam offers a rich setting, balanced gameplay, and strategic depth. Players are challenged to craft powerful combinations of abilities while carefully planning ahead and managing their resources for maximum advantage. In the game, players compete over twelve rounds to expand their merchant networks, produce and deliver goods, and acquire prestige. Each round begins with six new cards—district, building, and profession cards—that players can draft. These cards require colored action cubes to activate but offer unique abilities, actions, and valuable ways to earn points. Additionally, market conditions change each round, allowing players to trade money for victory points at opportune moments. The heart of the game lies in its innovative use of a windrose mechanism. Each turn, six colored dice are rolled, and players select one die to collect its corresponding number of action cubes. However, the cubes are placed on their windrose based on the die value, delaying availability until that number of rounds has passed. This clever system forces players to balance short-term needs against long-term planning. At the end of each round, players rotate their windrose to gain access to the cubes placed on their current “1” space. Action cubes allow players to activate cards, claim goods tiles scattered around various districts of Amsterdam, and move goods or workers through canals to warehouses. Points are earned for delivering goods, activating bonus effects from cards, and expanding your influence throughout the city. After twelve rounds, the player with the most prestige emerges victorious.
