Helsinki In the heart of Helsinki lies the iconic Senate Square, surrounded by historic landmarks like government buildings, the university, the cathedral, and the Sederholm House. Your mission? Redesign the market by connecting pavilions across the square to protect pedestrians from the rain—while maximizing your score. Helsinki draws inspiration from the popular game Copenhagen by the same design team, but adds deeper layers of complexity. On your turn, you’ll navigate your pawn across the central board depicting Senate Square, selecting cards or constructing pavilions. Strategy is key as you work within the limits of a 7-card hand and decide how best to position your tiles. To build a pavilion, you’ll play a card showing the shape you want to use and supplement it with additional cards of the same color to match the size of the piece. You’ll then slide the piece onto your personal game board, representing Senate Square, from the side corresponding to your pawn’s position on the central board. By covering specific spaces, you can earn coat of arms tokens, which can be spent on powerful one-time special actions to gain an edge over your competition. Players score points by completing rows and columns on their personal Senate Square boards. Thoughtful movements, efficient card use, and well-planned pavilion placements are essential to outbuilding your opponents. The player with the highest score at the end of the game is crowned the ultimate architect of Helsinki’s Senate Square!
